Alison Williams, MA
Pilates and Yoga Instructor

Alison Williams is a certified Pilates and yoga instructor with over 14 years of teaching experience. From the age of three, she began her movement studies with her mother, dancing and practicing yoga. She holds a Masters Degree in Somatic Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and received her BA in History at Brown University in 1998, where she was also awarded the Weston Fine Arts Award in Dance. After graduating from Brown, she moved to New York City and studied and danced with many masters of the craft. Eventually, she recognized that performance was not ultimately what was important to her about her studies, and around this time, she was lucky enough to discover Ana Forrest. She completed her Forrest yoga teacher training in 2001 in Chicago. Alison went on to complete her Pilates certification at BodyTonic Gymnasium in Brooklyn in 2005 and began teaching Pilates and yoga full time.

Eager to deepen her understanding of the relationship between body, mind, spirit, art, discipline, and practice, she moved to San Francisco in 2006 and received her Master’s Degree in Somatic Psychology. She completed a second yoga teacher training certification at Laughing Lotus in San Francisco, as well as a rehabilitation certification with Lizz Roman.​

Alison moved to Seattle in anticipation of the birth of her first child who arrived in March 2015! She has continued to teach Pilates, yoga and dance throughout this lifetime of study, and has worked with many different populations, including people dealing with serious rehabilitation issues, expectant and new mothers, the elderly, athletes, and children working with developmental issues. She continues to be fascinated with questions of embodiment and strives through her work to inspire people to have richer experiences of their own sense of aliveness.

Alison’s Classes: Body Movement: This is a conditioning class based on the principles and practices of Pilates, yoga and various release techniques that will cultivate strength and flexibility. Using the foundational concepts of Pilates: concentration, control, centering, flow, precision, and breathing, we will bring your body into greater balance and move towards more optimal functioning. We will focus on building core strength and creating better alignment and ease of movement. We will find greater balance from a muscular, postural, and neurological perspective.
